The value of Direct Mail
According to a recent UK study by Royal Mail on ‘how to build a case study for Direct Mail’ it states that when sending magazines or catalogues, they are often kept for future reference; in fact, 18% of direct mail is kept to look at again.
And not only that direct mail deliveries a High response rate. More than 92% of direct mail is opened and 48% of UK adults took action after receiving direct mail last year:
- 14.2m bought something
- 10.5m used a voucher or coupon
- 2.8m tried a new product or service
- 3m made an enquiry by phone
More powerful than digital
As customers face email fatigue and the novelty wears off banner advertising, direct mail is again outperforming digital.
In a recent Royal Mail MarketReach study that measured mails effectiveness with neuroscience, where people said they are likely to give mail (65%) rather than email (35%) sent from companies their full attention.
In that same study, 72% of people said they often read and review some of their mail at a time when they can give it their full attention, even if they have already opened it.
Some additional facts for you taken from a recent UK direct marketing association:
- 94 billion spam emails are sent across the globe every day—most never read.
- 92% of recipients will be driven to act online.
- 87% are encouraged to make online purchases.
- 86% feel a greater connection with your business.
- 79% of consumers act on direct mail immediately—only 45% react to email in the same way.
- 70% welcome mail that rewards their loyalty.
Personalization and relevance are key. Costs can be high but scale and return on investment clearly remain very strong when your direct mail campaign is delivered to a well-targeted audience.
